Senior Living FAQs
What's the difference between independent living and assisted living?
Independent living is perfect for seniors who want to maintain their independence while receiving the amenities of a retirement community, meeting like-minded people, and living maintenance-free.
Assisted living is ideal for those who need assistance with activities of daily living and expanded services tailored to their unique needs, with wellness-focused support designed to provide confidence in every step.
What are the safety features at Unbridled Living?
Safety and security are our top priorities, which is why we have concierge staff on-hand 24/7 – a feature many retirement communities do not offer – for our residents’ safety and support. Doors are secured day and night, but our residents still have full access to come and go as they please.
How do I apply for an independent living apartment at Unbridled Living?
Give us a call or send us a message! Our helpful team members will be happy to schedule a tour of our senior living community for you or your loved one, help you choose the apartment floor plan that’s right for you, and answer any questions you may have.
How much does independent living cost per month in St. Peters?
At Unbridled Living of St. Peters, independent living rates start at $2,775 per month for studio apartments, $3,500 for one-bedroom units, $4,995 for two-bedroom units, and $5,400 for two-bedroom villas. When a resident signs a lease, we charge a one-time Community Fee of $3,500.
Should we look at a villa or an apartment?
What is included in the monthly fee, and what costs extra?
- Apartment — Studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom floor plan with a full kitchen, including refrigerator, range, microwave, and dishwasher
- Utilities — Electricity, gas, water, sewer, and trash, with no separate utility bills or deposits
- Dining — A $500 monthly meal credit, usable in the dining room or at Marv’s, our on-site bistro
- Housekeeping and linens — Scheduled housekeeping twice per month, including linen service
- Maintenance — Repairs to any damages not caused by the resident, plus appliance and HVAC repair
- Transportation — Scheduled community transportation for shopping, personal errands, medical appointments, and group outings
- Life enrichment — A full monthly calendar of physical, social, educational, and spiritual activities
- On-site team — A team member on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week
What is the difference between independent living, a senior apartment, and a 55+ community?
If we move, do we lose the senior property tax freeze on the house?
You don’t lose the freeze by moving to Unbridled Living of St. Peters, you leave property taxes behind entirely. St. Charles County’s senior tax freeze locks your home’s tax bill at its base-year amount, but it only stops future increases: you still pay the full frozen bill every year, along with homeowner’s insurance, utilities, repairs, lawn care, and snow removal. And the freeze does not travel with you, if you sell and buy another home, your taxes reset at the new property’s current level.
Because Unbridled Living of St. Peters is a rental community, there is nothing to reset. As a resident, you have no property tax bill at all, frozen or otherwise, no homeowner’s insurance premium, and no maintenance costs. One monthly rent covers your apartment, utilities, dining, housekeeping, maintenance, and transportation.
The clearest way to weigh the decision is to compare the total annual cost of staying in the house, even with frozen taxes, against one all-inclusive monthly rate. We are happy to run that comparison with you using your actual numbers.

How do I bring this up with my parent without starting a fight?
- Start with listening, not proposing. Before you mention independent living, ask open questions: “How are you feeling about keeping up with the yard these days?” Let them name the frustration first. People are far more open to a solution they feel they reached themselves — and frame the move as gaining quality of life, not losing something.
- Pick a calm moment, not a crisis moment. Raise it during a low-stress time, not right after a fall, a scary diagnosis, or a hard repair bill. In a crisis, it reads as “we’re forcing this on you” instead of “let’s plan ahead together.”
- Bring siblings and other decision-makers in ahead of time, so your parent doesn’t feel ganged up on or hear mixed messages.
- Use a specific trigger as an opening, if one exists. “You mentioned stairs are getting hard on your knees” is a gentler entry point than an abstract “we should talk about your future.”
- Address the real fears directly. Most resistance isn’t about logistics — it’s about independence, identity, and a home full of memories. Naming that (“I know this house has 40 years of memories in it, and that’s not nothing”) often defuses more than any brochure. For many older adults, their home isn’t just a place to live; it is part of their identity.
- Make it their decision, with options. Rather than presenting one plan, suggest touring two or three communities together “just to see what’s out there.” Independent living is about lifestyle, so leaning into dining, activities, and social connection tends to land better than framing it around care needs.
Can she bring her pet? Are there size or breed limits?
- Dogs: up to 35 pounds
- Cats: up to 15 pounds or 12 inches in height
- Fish: aquariums up to 20 gallons, sealed against water damage
- A non-refundable fee of $250 per pet
